“The primary purpose of the ‘tattoos – modern expressions’ event is to show appreciation of the Sarawak’s unique tattooing background which is still largely misunderstood by our modern but somewhat conservative community.
“At the same time, this exhibition would act as an awareness and educational platform to dismiss negative thoughts on tattoo and the art of tattooing which sometimes can easily be linked to gangsterism, cult, Satanism and the likes,” said main organiser Jeremy Lo of Monkey Tattoo Studio.
Lo, who specialises in Sarawak stylised tribal tattoo, added that the event will also feature variations of traditional and modern tattooing, as well as the varieties of artwork of professional tattoo artists from far and near.
Monkey Tattoo Studio will be the host for this event.Visitors can look forward to experiencing 3Dimensional tattoos and micro tattoos of Miri-born Arth Akal who specialises in portraits. Also present is another Mirian Baxx Jordan whose main forte is Japanese tattoo.
This three days event will also include competition for best women and men tattoo, colouring contest for kids, traditional dance performance and also exhibition of arts, crafts, model showcase and music from the heart of Sarawak featuring ‘sape’ by Awin and traditional Borneo tattooing demonstration.
For visitors on-the-spot tattooing is also highly expected.Entry into the event is completely free.
